Research shows that teachers spend the first month of school re-teaching concepts from the previous year. Mathematics particularly suffers with students losing around 2.6 months of content. During the summer, students can keep their math skills sharp both through online games and hands-on projects. Once students reach high school it is recommended that students set aside time studying for the PSAT, ACT and SAT. See the following suggestions for how to incorporate math into summer fun at various levels.

  1. Bake with your child.
  2. Look into summer programs and activities offered by your local university, community center and churches.
  3. Have a building project.
  4. Learn probability based “magic tricks.”
  5. Learn origami.
  6. Play math based games with the family.
